Rooted in outofspaces® ’ philosophy of sensory immersion and connection, Modern Cocoon transcends the idea of a traditional café.

Here, architecture is not just built but felt—each element forming a dialogue between raw materiality and organic warmth. Inspired by Kaldi’s legendary journey, this space becomes more than a café—it is a sanctuary, a pause, a place where the rhythm of discovery meets the serenity of shelter.

The design emerges from the constraints of its placement—tucked beneath the escalator—where limitation becomes opportunity. Concrete blocks stack like pieces of a story, softened by natural textures and warm lighting. Each module is intentional, forming a grounded retreat that blurs boundaries between interior and exterior.

The space unfolds gradually, mirroring the layered structure of a cocoon. Clay tiles, arranged with modular precision, form the architectural ‘shell’—raw, protective, and grounding. These structured forms are softened with organic touches: textured clay tiles, warm stucco finishes, and embedded planters that breathe life into the space. Soft, diffused lighting enhances the sensory experience, casting subtle shadows that evoke the natural folds of a cocoon.

The layout is designed as a seamless journey—each zone, from the feature bar to the seating niches, is crafted as a cocoon within a cocoon, offering intimate spaces for pause and connection. The interplay between raw materiality and organic warmth captures the duality of a cocoon: a structure that protects and nurtures simultaneously.
